Dental Care - Occlusal Splints
'Occlusion' is dental terminology for how teeth bite together.
If they are not meeting properly problems may occur:
Headache, migraine and backache
If the occlusion is wrong, the muscles of the jaw need to work a lot more and become tired after only a short time. This can cause headaches and even migraines, especially first thing in the morning, as the patient is likely to have been grinding in their sleep and unaware of doing so. Other areas of the face can be affected, as well as the neck, shoulders and even the back.
Many people tend to have 'clicking' jaws and never suffer any real problems but sometimes the joints deteriorate causing pain. The solution is a specially designed mouth guard to protect the jaw.
